Best UK Electric Scooters With Seats for Adults [2022]

What we look for in a good seated electric scooter

  • How comfortable is the seat? – Everything from the size, shape and especially the material can make a huge difference to how good the scooter feels to sit on. One of the main things we look at is comfort and whether this scooter is going to make you ‘saddle’ sore over long distances or if it’s going to be an easy ride on your bottom.
  • Battery life and range – As with any scooter, the range you can go on is a huge factor you’ll want to look into. It’s also worth checking if the battery can be upgraded later, and how much that will cost. One thing to look out for is that the range that’s often quoted in the product info can be way off. The distance you’ll get per charge is hugely impacted by things like user weight, the terrain you’ll be riding on, sloped and inclines and so on.
  • Storage – You’ll likely have a bag, briefcase, shopping or any other bits of you’ll want to take with you on your journey. A decent-sized storage compartment or shelf is a must.
  • Suspension/shocks – Unless you want to arrive at your destination shaken and rattled, you’ll definitely want to pick a scooter that makes the ride smooth. Front and rear shock absorbers are important.
  • Design – While a lot of scooters tick the box in terms of performance and range, there are some scooters out there that seem to forget they should look good too.
  • Key ignition – Having a scooter with a key to start means it will help avoid theft of your scooter when you go shopping, to work, or are in the gym. (You’ll definitely want to secure it with a chain or lock too as they’re not exactly hard to carry off!)
  • Tyres – As this is more of a proper vehicle, we like to see some more heavy-duty tyres here. We recommend going for at least 10″ air-filled tyres.
  • Maximum load

What are the best e-scooters with seats in 2022?

  • Max Speed: 25km/h
  • Range: 15km – 25km
  • Max User: L 120kg
  • Motor: 350W
  • Tyres: 12″ air-filled

Although it looks more like more of a mini bike, we’re including TOEU’s electric scooter in this list as there’s a lot we like about it, and it’s pretty decent value for what you’re getting. As this product round-up is all about scooters that have seats, once you ride it, it has all the characterising of an electric scooter.

You’ve got a choice of white or black with this scooter (white looks better in our opinion but we know some people prefer Batman-black on their e-rides.) The seat is a luxurious, soft affair that is comfy and supportive.

It’s aided in this by some reasonably chunky 12″ air-filled tyres and pretty good-looking rims. On the whole, it’s a modern-looking scooter (OK, it’s more of a bike, but it looks really good regardless.

There are small, very bright front and rear headlights, which add at least some simple safety and also help see if you get caught out and about at dusk.

On the downside, it doesn’t have gears and there is also no way to pedal it. It can suffer from slowdown on steeper hill climbs, especially if you’re closer to the max user weight. But other than that, it’s zippy, has a good range and controls very well.

It’s also worth mentioning, in with all the specs about range, battery life and other numbers that this electric scooter is also bloody good fun. It’s hard to imagine anyone who won’t get a kick out of riding this around.

Pros:

  • Solid, quality bike
  • Good value for money
  • Easy to use
  • The seat is extremely comfy
  • Lots of fun

Cons:

  • Chugs a bit on steeper hills

Verdict: I’ve no idea whether this should officially be included in our best scooter with a seat round-up but it’s going in anyway. It’s well built, the seat is very comfy and it has a decent range and speed for the price. A good budget pick and an all-round top electric ‘scooter’.

[bestBox asin=’B09HTQ2B1N’ pic=”https://www.trendyride.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/TODIMART-Adult-Electric-Scooter-With-Detachable-Seat.jpg” chip_text=’Best Folding with Seat’ product_name=’Todimart E202 Adult Electric Scooter’ sub_heading=’Good range – easy to fold and carry.’ text=”You can get up to 45 km/h with this scooter and it’s got an extremely good (and detachable) seat.”]

  • Max Speed: 45km/h
  • Range: 35 – 45km
  • Max User: 150kg
  • Motor: Choice of 1000w, 350w, 500w
  • Tyres: 10″

One of the best things about this electric scooter is how stable and comfortable the seat is. This is aided a great deal by both suspension on the seat itself and proper front and rear shock absorbers. It can handle its share of bumps and cracks in the road surface without jostling you around, as some scooters do.

You’ve also got a choice of motors with this e-scooter too, from an already powerful 500w up to 1000w. Even the lower of them is capable of climbing up to 15-30°. And the max user weight is a good 150kg so even bigger riders will be able to zip around on this scooter with some baggage too, without it chugging or struggling

There’s also a really good colour LCD display panel on this scooter, which shows the important specs such as speed and how much charge you have left. And the way it folds down is also a huge plus.

Pros:

  • Definitely built to last
  • Comfy seat and plenty of suspension
  • High upper weight limit
  • Excellent display panel
  • Tackles hills no problem

Cons:

  • Not cheap

  • Max Speed: 45km/h
  • Range: 35 – 45km
  • Max User: 200kg
  • Motor: 800w
  • Tyres: 10″

Hitway’s H5 is a great example of a proper adult scooter that comes with a seat. It’s insanely strong with a max user load up around 200kg so it’s sturdy enough to take bigger, heavier users and some serious baggage on top. As well as a tough frame, the 800w motor keeps you ploughing along at a decent speed too.

The trade-off is that it’s not the lightest scooter, weighing in at around 28kg. It does have a folding design, which means you’ll get it on the tube, in any car boot, or be able to carry short distances but depending on how strong you are, it takes a bit of lugging around.

The H5 boasts a good overall range of around 45km (depending on the terrain) which will be ideal for going to the local supermarket or commuting to work and back. And the top speed is also 45 km/h.

There are some good extra features with this electric scooter too. Front and rear mud-guards keep splashes off your work clothes and the front and red lights mean you’re safer driving around in the evening.

Another thing that jumped out with this scooter is it’s a decent design too, especially compared to some of the e-scooters that have a saddle. This one looks modern and has a bit of flare about it.

Pros:

  • Extremely sturdy frame
  • Decent range and top speed
  • Comfortable thick padded seat
  • High upper weight limit
  • Good-looking design

Cons:

  • A bit heavy to carry long distances

The iX5 is fast, tough and definitely built to last.”]

  • Max Speed: 45km/h
  • Range: 40km
  • Max User: 150kg
  • Motor: 600w
  • Tyres: 10″

If you’re looking for a tough scooter you can use on less forgiving surfaces than UK roads and paths, the iX5 might be what you’re looking for. This scooter has been designed to work on both the smooth and the not-so-smooth roads and trails out there. With thick, off-road tyres and heavy-duty suspension, it’s not going to have a problem with those bumpy surfaces.

It’s driven by a powerful 600 w motor which also means you won’t have any issues with steep inclines and delivers a max speed of 45km/h. The seat itself can be adjusted to a range of heights and this scooter is also suitable for taller users up to around six and a half feet in height.

Pros:

  • Ideal for off-road
  • Tough design
  • Fairly light for a seated scooter
  • Excellent top range
  • Powerful 600w motor
  • Suitable for taller riders

Cons:

  • Very basic instruction manual

[bestBox asin=’B093GPX3KR’ pic=”https://www.trendyride.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/escooter-with-basket.jpg” chip_text=’Best For Shopping’ product_name=’urbetter Electric Scooter’ sub_heading=’Best scooter for shopping’ text=”A good option if you need a proper place to stash your loot. This scooter has a seat and a handy basket at the rear.”]

  • Max Speed: 45km/h
  • Range: 40km
  • Max User: 150kg
  • Motor: 500w
  • Tyres: 12″

This adult scooter has a lot of extra features that make it worth adding to your short list. For starters, the metal basket that’s attached to the rear of the frame makes a pretty good way to transport your gear to work, or as secure storage for a shopping bag or two. It’s definitely a lot better than trying to keep a bag it between your knees or having a backpack which can affect your balance.

You’ll get up to 45km/h top speed with this EV (around 28mph) depending on the usual things that can slow you down such as incline and how much you weigh and are transporting. This seated scooter is actually a good buy for heavier users as it takes up to 150kg combined cargo and user weight.

The seat itself is reasonably thick, makes for a comfy ride and the way they’ve worked it in, it leaves a lot more legroom than other electric scooters that have a seat.

On the downside, it doesn’t look quite as slick as some of the scooters we’ve seen but its not exactly ugly either. The simple tubular frame is strong and sturdy, if not the most exciting. You’re also stuck with one colour, black.

There are some really good features up on the handlebars too, such as a secure phone holder and a large and easy-to-read speedometer. Brakes are within easy reach and the overall layout is designed well. Charging time comes in at around 8 hours and that will get you up to 40km or about 25 miles.

This scooter definitely earns its place on our best adult scooters with a seat due to its rock-solid design, well thought out features and brilliant basket at the back.

Pros:

  • Ideal for off-road
  • Tough design
  • Fairly light for a seated scooter
  • Excellent top range
  • Powerful 600w motor
  • Suitable for taller riders

Cons:

  • Very basic instruction manual

Adults E-scooter with seat Buyer’s Guide

Suspension and shocks

With any scooter you sit down on, you’re definitely going to feel the road unless you get one with suspension on either the seat or the wheels themselves. Definitely try to get one with at least rear suspension or shocks and look for a spring-loaded seat too. Your bottom will thank you later.

What kind of price range are these scooters?

You can pick up an e-scooter that comes with a seat for around £250. They can go up to around the £600 mark at the moment.

More expensive scooters generally have better battery life, range, top speeds and overall quality.

What kind of motor should I be looking for?

For an adult electric scooter with a seat, you’ll want a brushless motor and look for around 450w to 600w. There’s more weight involved here, especially if you’re going to be carrying shopping or a heavy bag.

Carrying your shopping or other ‘cargo’

Depending what you’re planning to use your electric scooter for, you might want to think about getting a model that has a cargo basket. These are normally found at the rear of the scooter, tucked behind the seat. Not all have them but if you’re planning to use this for supermarket runs, going to the gym or just work, they can prove very useful.

How do you control the speed?

The majority of adult scooters will use a handlebar throttle, similar to what you’d find on a motorbike. Tw2isting the right handgrip downwards will increase the speed you travel at. It’s not hard to use and you don’t need to have any experience to use one. And they’re usually pretty forgiving. The scooter won’t zip off or throw you backwards.

Hill climbing

Electric scooters that have seats can climb up hills but some do a better job than others.

What are some of the drawbacks to electric scooters with seats?

Seated scooters vs standing

In this guide we’ve hyped up and talked about some of the better scooters out there with seats so what are some of the downsides?

Weight – they’re heavier than regular kick scooters

With an average weight of around 25kg – 30kg, you can definitely pick up and carry these scooters around but that seat definitely adds to the weight. Regular adult electrics can weight around 18kg, which is around 10kg less, making them far more portable. There are some folding scooters that have seats, but they are not as compact as those without.

They don’t look as ‘cool’

While I like a lot of the designs with seated scooters, a lot of the web doesn’t agree with me! Scooter fans have expressed that the design of the scooters can’t compare to something like an Xiomi Pro or a Razor kick scooter. The added bulk from the seat, extra lights and handlebar add-ons make for a less streamlined aesthetic.

A lot of adult riders prefer standing up to sitting down

Many people who are used to riding scooters just don’t want to sit down, or they feel like they have less balance, or even that it feels a bit ‘dorky’. If you’re riding on rougher roads or trails, you might also prefer to stand. A lot of seasoned scooter fans also like the feel of taking off from standing position, or enjoy the control they get from standing up.
